International Education Week, UR Style

Since 2017 the University of Richmond has promoted the value of deeper connection to non-US cultures through International Education Week (IEW), part of a national effort to highlight the importance of global engagement, dialogue, and cultural exchange. During IEW at Richmond, our Spider community comes together to learn about a chosen country through multiple lenses, earning UR a national award. We work with faculty, students, staff, organizations abroad, and the Richmond community to have visitors partner with faculty in classes, for talks and performances, and to represent at a Fair each year.

We do this to encourage stronger ties among our diverse community and curriculum and to expand shared knowledge and understanding. Through the Office for Sustainability’s IEW Ecochallenge, more than 300 campus members have adopted sustainable behaviors that, for example, saved 3,340 gallons of water in a year when our country of focus South Africa suffered drought. IEW UR Style also brings the highest attendance for special D-Hall dinners featuring authentic foods of the region of study, as advised by students, staff, and faculty who share family recipes and lived enjoyment.
